SACRAMENTO – First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom will lead a discussion on equal pay and gender equality in the workforce hosted by the California Legislative Women’s Caucus TONIGHT (8/27/19), joining New York Times bestselling author, award-winning journalist and former Editor-in-Chief of Teen Vogue Elaine Welteroth and Assemblymember Shirley N. Weber, Chair of the Black Caucus and Vice Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women and Girls.
The event will also feature a “Know Your Rights Workshop” from Equal Rights Advocates, and the launch of #EqualPayCA: College Edition resources designed to help college students across California achieve pay equity at every step of their careers. A typical woman loses hundreds of thousands of dollars over her lifetime to the wage gap, but one study showed that negotiating a pay bump in your first job can increase lifetime earnings by over one million dollars.
