Need a Maya Angelou Quote as a Pick-Me-Up?

Why not add Maya Angelou Quotes as a quick pick-me-up? Are you, too, feeling a bit overwhelmed or creatively stifled by the 24/7 discussions regarding this coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19)? Well, you’re NOT ALONE. Of course, I’m interested in the latest developments, data, press conferences, state and federal guidelines, etc. I’m simply feeling information overload. Gee whizz!

I had to stop myself from reading tons of articles and watching every press conference about this virus. It was time to fill my cup with something to ignite my creative fire.

Maya Angelou Quote

Keep It Fresh

As a blogger who LOVES to write content, lately I’ve struggled with WHAT TO POST. Prior to all this outbreak stuff, I had pre-scheduled (automated) blogs and social media posts with interesting and funny write ups but now I decided to delay the postings. Why? My reason for delaying the posts are to be sure I’m being sensitive to those directly impacted by the outbreak in any way.

Inspirational Topics

When I have writer’s block or need added substance for a writing project, I go to YouTube or Google to search topics like inspirational leadership, journaling, self-care, mindset habits or similar keywords. Several videos gave me a little inspiration, but something I saw reminded me of a Maya Angelou quote that has consistently encouraged me over the years. The thought of this ONE particular quote is the leading inspiration behind THIS post. It was difficult to post a few Maya quotes. She left us with so much of her profound wisdom. So, I just wanted to share a few of my favorites to help fulfill your inspirational needs.

Maya Angelou’s Inspirational Quotes

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”

“Nothing will work unless you do.’

“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”

“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget HOW you made them feel.”

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”

“I’m a woman phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, that’s me.”

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

“I’ve learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision.”

“Never make someone a priority when all you are to them is an option.”

“Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”

FINAL THOUGHT

We all need to be mindful of what is going on in our world to stay informed and healthy. In the midst of challenging times, let’s inspire one another to keep a positive mindset. Hopefully, these Maya Angelou quotes added a rainbow to your cloud. Do you have a favorite Maya Angelou quote?

HUGE Success

Did you catch my previous post about the Journey to Sac Fashion Week?

Welp, I knew I owed y’all a BRIEF update from that previous post to share the HUGE SUCCESS of Saturday night’s Sacramento Fashion Week Runway Event (SacFW). The theme was of this year’s fashion “Fashion in the City.” The show was held in North Sacramento at The Rink Studios. Actually, the show was held on February 21 and 22, which 5 or 6 designers on their respective days. For some pretty obvious reasons, I attended the Saturday night show.

Let me start by sharing how proud I am of my favorite 16-year-old supermodel aka my daughter, Tyra Simone. I recognize I am a bit partial, however, Tyra SLAYED the runway. She had poise, swag, passion, and professionalism with every stride. Through a model casting call, Tyra had been selected to model for Zenzele Nuru partnered with Mario B, and Samantha Wall of Unlimited Fashions.

Tyra’s first look of the night was her hot pink, crochet 2-piece skirt outfit. Zenzele is a BEAST who crochets all her amazing designs. This was not your average 2-piece, it was an adorable mini skirt along with a top that included a wrap-around belt and exaggerated huge sleeves.

Tyra’s second look was her beautiful African print skirt from Samantha Wall at Unlimited Fashions. She came out with the skirt pulled up like a tube dress then, at the end of the runway, she pulled it down to show how it can also be a long full skirt. The skirt was accented with a black shirt and silver heels. Samantha Wall “specializes in women’s fashion and accessories.”

Thank you to Zenzele Nuru, Samantha Wall, Mario B, Cosmo Beauty Academy, DMR Productions and the Sacramento Fashion Week staff for an awesome showcase highlighting many talented designers, stylists, and models.

Did you check out my glimpse video HERE ?

This post wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t share the moment when I hit the red carpet looking fabulous and stuff. This momager cleaned up nicely, wouldn’t you say? By the way, remember to CLICK THE LINK above to glance at the highlights. Thank you sooo much.

Sippin’on lemongrass

Almost every time I purchase lemongrass from the grocery store or at the farmers market, I’m asked how I use it? My answer is, I boil it in water for 10 minutes and drink it as a tea.

What Is Lemongrass?

Lemongrass is an herb with a lemony scent. The culinary herb is produced from the stalk of the lemongrass plant (Cymbopogon citratus). This plant grows in many tropical climates, most notably in Southeast Asia. It is a common ingredient in Thai cooking and can also be found in dishes from Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and India (Indiamart .com)

Boiling lemongrass for tonight’s tea

Here’s a helpful article describing more of the benefits of lemongrass, including the Health Benefits of Lemongrass.

“Lemongrass tea is traditionally used for relieving anxiety and it has a diuretic effect against bloating… Because lemongrass oil is high in citral and limonene, it may have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. Lemongrass oil is utilized in aromatherapy and as a topically-applied essential oil.”

To learn more on the amazing benefits, check out the Spruce Eats.

I’m so thankful to my coworker Richard for putting me on to lemongrass and all its health properties.

#RandomActsofKindnessDay

[Why not share this post with a friend or colleague? Go for it.]

Random Acts of Kindness Day

Did you know that, in addition to being my nephew Elijah’s birthday, February 17, is National Random Acts of Kindness Day?!

A random act of kindness (RAoK) is a selfless act of kindness towards someone else.

It’s just nice to be nice. It’s time to take action and DO random acts of kindness

“Make the world a better place by bringing a smile to someone’s face.”

Random Acts of Kindness Ideas

  • Donate toys and books
  • Treat someone to coffee or tea
  • Support someone’s growing business
  • Send flowers just because
  • Support a fundraiser
  • Call someone instead of texting
  • Volunteer to help an organization
  • Volunteer at an animal shelter
  • Smile at everyone you encounter
  • Bake cookies for your neighbor
  • Leave a generous tip at a restaurant
  • Offer to babysit for a parent who “needs a break”
  • Give a coworker an encouraging note or note of appreciation
  • Find a way to assist those in assisted living
  • Provide a meal or food gift card to a homeless person
  • Leave extra change in the vending machine

It is clear that life gets busy and we are caught up in the hustle and bustle of our own lives; however, a simple kind gesture can make a huge impact on someone else.

Kindness is contagious.

Reasons kindness can make you healthier

According to inc.com, the five top reasons kindness can benefit you is, as follows:

  1. Kindness fuels energy and esteem;
  2. Kindness makes you happier;
  3. Kindness is good for your heart;
  4. Kindness helps you live longer;
  5. Kindness plays a role in decreasing anxiety, stress, depression, etc.

BONUS: Kindness releases feel-good hormones.

Kindness is contagious

Your kind gesture will inspire someone else to do the same thing. A simple gesture can go a long way.

I talk a lot about self-care throughout my blog which you can refer to at another time, but in honor of the National Random Act of Kindness Day (February 17, 2020), it is important to highlight simple ideas for selfless acts for someone else.

How will you incorporate acts of kindness?

Journey to Sacramento Fashion Week

The countdown to Sacramento Fashion Week (SacFW) begins. My 16-year-old daughter, Tyra Simone, will be walking the runway modeling designs by Samantha Wall-Laidler and Designer Zenzele Nuru. Partnered with Stylist, MarioB, they are preparing a runway experience to remember.

Today’s Rehearsal

The rehearsal leading up to the show is all about being fitted and styled in flattering custom outfits, practicing model walk and poses to the music, as well as going over the show lineup from beginning to end.Rehearsal was held in room facility on the beautiful campus of California State University Sacramento (Sac State). Being that I completed the last three semesters of my undergraduate studies on this campus, I always look forward to coming back to see the beautiful enhancements.

I’m EXHAUSTED

Confession!!!!

I’m tired y’all. No for real for reeaaalll. Since the middle of December, I’ve been going 100 miles a minute. Between my full time job, running my Destiny Inspired business, raising two girls, managing my oldest daughter’s modeling, hosting events, attending/supporting other events, ghostwriting blogs for others, managing clients and more. Whewwww

Ya girl is TIRED!

I had to share that. I love posting all the great stuff, but I also love the behind the scenes.

Oftentimes people ask me how I do it all since I do way more than what is posted. The answer is that I just get it done BUT this last couple weeks, I am feeling EXHAUSTED. My 43 year old body is like HOLD UP SISTA.

So, I’m hoping my glasses make me look NOT SO EXHAUSTED. lol

This Super Mommy is Super Tired!
I will be scaling back and catching up on my nap times.

My SELF-CARE goals for this week include getting more sleep, enjoy some coloring in a coloring book and treat myself to a bouquet of flowers to celebrate ME just because.

Thank you Lord for some good restful sleep tonight to prepare for my week.

Good night peeps. May you have RESTFUL sleep too.

Are you feeling fatigue and ready to step up your self-care?

Here are a few self-care ideas:

Last week, I treated myself to a 60-minute full body massage and I will do that again soon.
Treat yourself. Love yourself.

Why, How, What

It comes down to the why, how and what. “People don’t buy WHAT you do, they explain WHY you do it.” Let Simon Sinek remind you of the importance of your WHY. This simple video from Simon Sinek reminds us how important it is to express our why, how important it is – as leaders- to be sure our staff knows their why, and why we do what we do. Other times, it goes back to the need for a hard reset in your life.
