When you feel like quitting, remember WHY you started

Is quitting really an option? Does quitting translate into failure or using wisdom? Does mental exhaustion qualify as a valid excuse to quit working towards your dreams? These are questions I’ve considered and heard of other entrepreneurs considering over the years. I guess it is safe to say, IT DEPENDS on the circumstances.

Whether you are an independent representative in multilevel marketing, a blogger, owning and operating your own a nonprofit organization or small business, sometimes the process is exhausting.  Well, that may just be my opinion, but I feel like I’m not alone. So, to encourage myself, I remind myself of the phrase ” When you feel like quitting, remember WHY you started.” It all comes back to my reasons WHY. For me, it would be why did I start a blog, a business, etc.? What is YOUR why?

Recently, I told a friend of mine that I love writing and inspiring others through various mediums, but never want it to feel stressful or like a job. I simply desire to inspire others by blogging about life, love, transparency of struggles, and ways to dust off your shoulders to BEGIN AGAIN. Destiny Inspired Consulting is my business for providing social media / digital marketing services for entrepreneurs and small businesses. Women’s empowerment events have also become an added attribute. Blah blah blah  I put a lot of pressure on myself to get things so perfect that I end up hindering my own forward movement.

Welp, before I get sidetracked on this post again, let me share a final thought. Your entrepreneurial journey may get rough from time to time; that’s normal. Instead of considering quitting as your primary solution, consider doing the following:

  • Take a mental break and back away from the daily pursuit;
  • Reach out to your business coach or inspirational mentor to discuss your feelings;
  • Write a list of the reasons make you want to quit and reasons to keep going;
  • Create a gap analysis of your goals to discover where you started and where you want to end up to identify what gaps exist;
  • Remind yourself that hard work pays off. Ask yourself if you have exhausted all possibilities;
  • Do not despise small beginnings;
  • Give yourself credit for what you have already accomplished;
  • Treat yourself to a weekend of self-care before making any longterm decisions;
  • Shift your perspective on how you look at rejection or setbacks – find the positive;
  • Keep daily prayer and positive affirmations at the beginning of each day. (My go-to is Cindy Trimm’s Entrepreneurial Prayer).

My final thought is that sometimes quitting is an option if what you are doing no longer brings you joy or if you started your goals for all the wrong reasons. Just don’t quit because the journey is a temporarily rough. Do you have a tip or two to share that could encourage someone feeling stuck or discouraged in the pursuit of their dreams?

Do You Know How Value & Self-worth Affect Your Life?

There have been times when I wondered what my life would have been if only I had understood the impact of knowing my worth. Without any extensive self-assessments, I know my relationship choices would have been different.  Hmm…I guess it’s okay to wonder, without spending considerable time feeling disheartened about what coulda shoulda woulda.

My childhood memories include growing up in Rancho Cordova, California as a Brownie and then a Girl Scout for many years. Through those organized program activities, I was introduced to basic leadership skills, courage, team-building, adventure, and confidence – especially when I was one of the top Girl Scout cookie sellers. So, I can say I was familiar with self-worth on a surface level.

What is the Meaning of Self-Worth and Self-Value?

Self-worth and self-value are two related terms that are often used interchangeably. Having a sense of self-worth means that you value yourself, and having a sense of self-value means that you are worthy. The differences between the two are minimal enough that both terms can be used to describe the same general concept.

Many people battle with knowing (and communicating) their value which ultimately affects their relationships and career decisions to say the least.

Powerful Videos

Instead of potentially overwhelming boring you with a lot of talk about how knowing our self-worth and value influences every area of our lives, would you check out the following two videos.

1. YOUR VALUE

2. Know Your Worth, Then Ask For It

After reading this content and watching the videos, would you do me a favor? Would you share your feedback? I would really love to hear your personal stories as to when, or if, you discovered your value. Okay?

While you are discovering and assessing your self-worth, keep a few things in mind.

Maybe you’ve experienced a “failed” relationship, felt stuck in your career, or felt “less than” after comparing your accomplishments with others. Regardless of what chipped away at your self-worth, you CAN rebuild your confidence in YOURSELF.

Final Thought

Know Your WORTH and do not settle for less than you DESERVE. One last thing is that you will encounter those who are unable to see your value, but don’t let their opinion become your reality.

Just felt like sharing the backstory…

Around the summer 2018, I came to realize that many promotional opportunities I was applying for (and highly qualified for) weren’t being offered to me and were being freely handed to others. (That is another story for another day. Stay tuned)

Anyway, last year, I had become quite fed up and frustrated with my job. I was feeling stuck, over utilized, undervalued and underpaid to say the least.

(Side note: While I was feeling stuck, I was still praying asking for God to open doors and to show me the areas I needed to grow. I found there were things God needed me to discover right in the place where I was feeling stuck.) Have you ever just felt stuck and don’t know how explain it?

Sooooo, the process of SHIFTING MY MINDSET was necessary for my forward movement; the process was not overnight.

To help me get my mind right, I began investing time into my personal and professional development. What did that look like? That meant I began to read more books within my niche/career interests and began spending more time studying those individuals in my field who were already successful.

Although the stressors at work had not yet disappeared at that time and the toxicity still existed, I began to use my free time to draft a business and entrepreneurial roadmap including the objectives necessary to lead me to my destiny.

Soon after my mind began to SHIFT, I launched Destiny Inspired Consulting.

To give you a bit more background, my firstborn daughter, Tyra, wrote a fiction story for school and my character’s name in her story was DESTINY. Over many years, many people would contact me for guidance regarding their professional and/or educational endeavors. Finally, the consistent feedback I was getting is that I had been an inspiration to those individuals AND had INSPIRED them through my guidance or CONSULTING. Hence, the name of my career and social media consulting business launched September 2018 is DESTINY INSPIRED CONSULTING.

In hindsight, as it pertained to the place I was working at that time, I needed to experience that long season of toxic management and feeling stuck BECAUSE it put fire under me to pursue my dreams with RELENTLESS FAITH.

I thought it was important to share how Destiny Inspired Consulting was birthed into existence.

I recently shared the recorded podcast interview I did with TV Host/Producer Chundria Brownlow of The Chundria Show. The topic was Stepping Outside of Comfort Zones. Sharing about my business and a bit of my professional journey caused me to reflect on how far I had come and this is only the beginning.

When I post things about having to CREATE MY OWN OPPORTUNITIES, not just words, that is more like sharing my testimony to inspire and empower someone else.

If I can DO IT, so can YOU!!

Let me say that again for the people in the back. If I can do it, so can YOU!!

Having personally PUSHED beyond feeling stuck is why I’m so passionate about inspiring others to put action behind their dreams, take those dreams off the back burner. Do not hesitate to create your own opportunities when there aren’t any being offered to you.

Now that you know what INSPIRED me to launch Destiny Inspired Consulting, -which now has evolved into business consulting along with women’s empowerment events.

In closing, I ask you a few thought-provoking questions.

1) Are you feeling stuck in your personal or professional life?

2) Have you considered the need to SHIFT YOUR MINDSET or simply change your perspective on a situation that has you feeling stuck or hopeless?

Yesterday, I wrote about being motivated when you just ain’t feeling it. I wrote that remembering how I felt when I felt stuck in my career. Now, not only am I a business owner and consultant, my goal is to speak to people all over the world through platforms worldwide and through social media platforms to reach the masses.

Welp that’s all folks. I just felt like blabbing…oops I mean sharing the backstory of Destiny Inspired Consulting.

Have a lovely and INSPIRING evening.

Change Your Perspective

Sometimes you just need to change the way you look at a a situation.

This concept of changing MY perspective still is not the easiest thing to do.

Sometimes the message is short and sweet…

CHANGE the direction you are looking at a situation with simple, yet effective, adjustments, like:

1) Focus on the positive

2) Look at the big picture

3) Remember trouble doesn’t last always.

4) Focus on any lessons learned and wisdom gained.

5) Until your situation is worked out, get busy helping someone else in need.

Your perspective will not change overnight, however, applaud yourself for every attempt you make to CHANGE for the better.

Instead of waiting for change, BE THE CHANGE.

Change YOUR Perspective

Is there a situation at home, work, church etc. where you need a shift in the way you look at things?

One more time

CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE

On My Heart

Having a smile on your face doesn’t equal having peace. So many times we have a smile on our faces to mask pain or anguish. Lord knows I’ve done it.

So, Father God, I come before you now thanking you and praising you for who you are. Lord, I pray that you would remove the spirit of heaviness, despair, and the desire to give up. It is on my heart that someone needs a breakthrough RIGHT NOW.

Lord, someone reading this feels they cannot bear anymore bad news. Lord lift every burden. In fact, someone feels they are drowning and is questioning their reason to live. The blood of Jesus is against any feelings of suicide. Lord, this is urgent.

As I sit on this lightrail commuting to work, I know YOU can FIX what needs fixing. Lord touch us. Lord we need YOUR peace. Lord we need YOUR healing.

I just keep hearing DON’T GIVE UP on yourself, your dreams, and PLEASE DON’T GIVE UP ON GOD!!!

So, in the name of Jesus we decree and declare supernatural breakthroughs are here now.

Amen and Amen
