Anyone else feeling blah and overwhelmed from all that is going on with this COVID-19 pandemic? I know I have felt a serious information overload. Seriously, the Coronavirus outbreak is on every channel, every media platform and has changed our way of life.
There is sooo much going on.
As a blogger, I found myself feeling overwhelmed and lacking creative inspiration. It’s hard to have creative juices spilling over when I’m seeing content virus updates that aren’t good.
I had to watch videos and listen to podcasts to ignite my creative fire.
The time had come to pause and think of the things that has consistently inspired me in this past. So, I started reading various Maya Angelou quotes. Guess what? It worked. Maya Angelou’s legacy and wisdom lives on.
Reading Maya Angelou books or empowering quotes feels so authentic from someone who has endured her own challenges. So, her words are her testimony.

I’m tired y’all. No for real for reeaaalll. Since the middle of December, I’ve been going 100 miles a minute. Between my full time job, running my Destiny Inspired business, raising two girls, managing my oldest daughter’s modeling, hosting events, attending/supporting other events, ghostwriting blogs for others, managing clients and more. Whewwww
Ya girl is TIRED!
I had to share that. I love posting all the great stuff, but I also love the behind the scenes.
Oftentimes people ask me how I do it all since I do way more than what is posted. The answer is that I just get it done BUT this last couple weeks, I am feeling EXHAUSTED. My 43 year old body is like HOLD UP SISTA.
So, I’m hoping my glasses make me look NOT SO EXHAUSTED. lol
This Super Mommy is Super Tired! I will be scaling back and catching up on my nap times.
My SELF-CARE goals for this week include getting more sleep, enjoy some coloring in a coloring book and treat myself to a bouquet of flowers to celebrate ME just because.
Thank you Lord for some good restful sleep tonight to prepare for my week.
Good night peeps. May you have RESTFUL sleep too.
Are you feeling fatigue and ready to step up your self-care?
Self-care is more than “treating yourself.” It is showing yourself some love and recognizing that you need to take care of YOURSELF. According to Life Hacker, Self-care helps prevent burnout, reduces negative psychological and physical effects of stress and helps you refocus on what is true and important.
Are you feeling overwhelmed at work or stressed about the overdue tasks piling up at home? Well, that may be a sign that it is time for you to indulge in a big dose of self-care. Self-care is not a buzzword or a movement, it is vital to your mental and physical well-being.
Definition of Self-Care
Self-care is defined as,” the practice of taking action to preserve one’s own health or the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.” (Source: Dictionary.com)
BENEFITS of practicing self-care
Reduces negative effects of stress
Better physical health
Improves quality of life
Improves resistance to disease
Helps you refocus
While there are many benefits to self-care, it is one of the first things to be overlooked or “put on the back-burner” when life becomes busy. There is a long comprehensive list of self-care ideas, but many of those ideas are tips that only take a few minutes.
Here are just a few self-care ideas for you to incorporate into your busy life:
Spend time outdoors
Do mindfulness breathing exercises
Listen to music that makes you smile
Do journal writing or make a gratitude list
Sip on hot herbal tea
Watch funny animal videos
Disconnect from social media for the day
Do a crossword puzzle or mindless coloring
Read the bible or positive affirmations
Take a hot bubble bath
There may not be a lot of time, but MAKE TIME. It doesn’t have to cost money to take a few moments out to show yourself some love or to give yourself a mental health break. The goal is to exercise self-care before you reach the level of BURNOUT, if possible.
It is so important to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself. There are times when we are so busy caring for the needs of others, that we find ourselves depleted. The fact is, if you gives others EVERYTHING you have, and then you have nothing left to give yourself or anyone else. Be kind to yourself.
Don’t wait until the perfect time on the perfect day. Get started right away. Which self-care ideas are you going to put into action right away?
Is quitting really an option? Does quitting translate into failure or using wisdom? Does mental exhaustion qualify as a valid excuse to quit working towards your dreams? These are questions I’ve considered and heard of other entrepreneurs considering over the years. I guess it is safe to say, IT DEPENDS on the circumstances.
Whether you are an independent representative in multilevel marketing, a blogger, owning and operating your own a nonprofit organization or small business, sometimes the process is exhausting. Well, that may just be my opinion, but I feel like I’m not alone. So, to encourage myself, I remind myself of the phrase ” When you feel like quitting, remember WHY you started.” It all comes back to my reasons WHY. For me, it would be why did I start a blog, a business, etc.? What is YOUR why?
Recently, I told a friend of mine that I love writing and inspiring others through various mediums, but never want it to feel stressful or like a job. I simply desire to inspire others by blogging about life, love, transparency of struggles, and ways to dust off your shoulders to BEGIN AGAIN. Destiny Inspired Consulting is my business for providing social media / digital marketing services for entrepreneurs and small businesses. Women’s empowerment events have also become an added attribute. Blah blah blah I put a lot of pressure on myself to get things so perfect that I end up hindering my own forward movement.
Welp, before I get sidetracked on this post again, let me share a final thought. Your entrepreneurial journey may get rough from time to time; that’s normal. Instead of considering quitting as your primary solution, consider doing the following:
Take a mental break and back away from the daily pursuit;
Reach out to your business coach or inspirational mentor to discuss your feelings;
Write a list of the reasons make you want to quit and reasons to keep going;
Create a gap analysis of your goals to discover where you started and where you want to end up to identify what gaps exist;
Remind yourself that hard work pays off. Ask yourself if you have exhausted all possibilities;
Do not despise small beginnings;
Give yourself credit for what you have already accomplished;
Treat yourself to a weekend of self-care before making any longterm decisions;
Shift your perspective on how you look at rejection or setbacks – find the positive;
My final thought is that sometimes quitting is an option if what you are doing no longer brings you joy or if you started your goals for all the wrong reasons. Just don’t quit because the journey is a temporarily rough. Do you have a tip or two to share that could encourage someone feeling stuck or discouraged in the pursuit of their dreams?
